Healthy Eating

Each session your child attends will include a snack time.

Snack time can play an important part in the social life of the pre-school as well as reinforcing children’s understanding of the importance of healthy eating.

Our 'café' is open for half an hour during each session and your child will be able to decide when they go and get their drink (milk or water). Your child will be encouraged to make their own choice from these unless you advise us that you have a preference.  Along with this drink, they will be offered some food. We want to provide a balanced diet, so snacks will vary from day to day.  Typical snacks include fruit, rice cakes, brioche, cheese and crackers.

During snack time two children will be appointed the 'café monitors'.  They will help make sure all the pictures/names of the other children are on the café board and help set the café up (put out chairs, prepare the fruit etc.) and then helps carry cups to the café area.

Eating is also an integral part of your child’s learning, so as we cover appropriate topics, various foods and fruits will be available for the children to taste.  For example, fruits will be a focus on 'Munchy Monday', pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and prawn crackers when learning about the Chinese New Year.

On special occasions, such as birthdays, sweets or cakes may be consumed if the parents of the birthday boy/girl bring them in.  At our Christmas party, traditional party food will be available.  If you would rather your child did not eat these, you have only to let us know.

Similarly, if your child has particular dietary requirements, snacks will be provided that fit their needs. Please keep us informed if your child has any allergies – confirmed or potential – so we can protect against and be prepared for any eventuality.

PLEASE NOTE: The pre-school is a Nut Free Zone

Exercise

Exercise is not just about burning calories.  It is an approach to life that, encouraged early, will give lifelong health benefits.  We try to do our part by making physical activity an integral part of our routine.

Every session your child attends will involve playtime in our top playground.  This will be a chance to run about, but also to play structured games with balls, hoops, bean bags, scooters and balance bikes.

If you have any concerns about your child taking part or wish to have more information, please don't hesitate to get in touch.  Similarly, if your child has any medical conditions that cause you concern, please let us know as soon as possible.
